...I don't know the answer. I'll google it!
Is Google making us stupid?... Yes! We're all dumb! Google is cheating and aren't we made to believe that's a sin? If Google makes us stupid, I'm probably bubbling over the rim with gooey stupidity; a moronic blend of knowing the easy way out, on the brink of a cheat. Even though I'm lazy and don't put any time into really anything (especially homework), I do love to read. True, I can't do it all in one sitting, not even in one month; there's just not enough time in my life, let alone in the day. And that's why we turn to Google: the easy way out. We're so submersed in this effortless access of information blowing its luring scent up our right nostrils from the serving plate in front of our faces, we've actually made the simple, wacky name of a website an official part of the English language. A verb! I'm not sure if you're understanding this...WE MADE THE NAME OF A SEARCH ENGINE AN ACTION WORD; AN ACTUAL THING YOU CAN DO.
We can all now run, kick, swim, and google.
Besides my indolent nature, I deeply wish my schedule would allow me to sit for hours on end and scuba dive into novels and immerse myself in the elegant words, humorous puns, dirty situations, and touching endings. But society's past that. Let's get as much done in one day as possible. No time to breathe. And I truly hope this path takes a sharp u-turn and soon!
I agree with you that there isn't much time left in the day to read and many people are turning to google to read for them basically. Google has become a huge part of our lives and we don't even realize it.I,as well, love to read and it's terrible that many people cannot appreciate books for what they really are. There seems to be no more "enjoying" books.People are just beginning to pick a part every inch of the book. I like how opinionated you are about the topic. It is an insightful entry.
ReplyDeletei like what you wrote. i think you are very passionate and you make a good point when you say that google has become a verb. it truly has.
ReplyDeleteif you read my blog, my opinion is a bit different.
the only thing i dislike is that you make many good points and you have really interesting ideas, but to really convince me i would have liked some support from the article.
i guess why you wouldn't use support would be because this is a place where you write about your opinions, but i assume for our WSC class, that we will need to have a more academic stance.
I agree with Jeanmarie about the support from Carr's essay. & I too think this is a very well-written entry, you speak what's on your mind in a beautiful fashion. Technology is truly taking over our lives and although I love Googling, the site has gotten a little out of control.
