Speaking One's Mind When Everyone Else Keeps Quiet

“Do we create what we observe through the act of our observations?”

Joshua Roebke

“The Reality Tests” (230)

Rainbow-colored vision knitted into a scarf. The newly, knitted, thick-laced scarf has been placed over our eyes and knotted in the back of our heads by the hands of Status Quo. Now all that can be seen is black. We are creating destruction – our eyes are open, yet our minds our shielded. The mind doesn’t work if it’s closed.

That frilly lasso worn around your neck is magic (without the gift of sight, that is the only name left). Magic turns blindness into perceptions. What do you need eyes for now? What is learned is what is known and there is little else to be cared about.

“Distant events do not affect one another, and properties we wish to observe exist before our measurements” (230). We observe with our eyes, but our minds are already made up. We believe what we want. Even when seen, we think the sight to be a cause of something else. Observations are mounted below our perceptions, but the truth cannot hide – only our minds can mask the truth. We see what we want to see. We believe what is best for ourselves.

“Most of us would agree that there exists a world outside our minds” (230). The agreement of the existence of an outside world in no way belongs in the synonym family of “appreciation”. WE, as a whole, DO NOT CARE! And it is utterly nauseating. “We evolved to experience the world in bulk” (231). The little things do not matter. The only experience of importance is the one big chunk instructions we get during our years of maturity: what to believe, what we need, what we want, and the basis of what is right and what is wrong. Along the thin line of the transfer from a toddler to teen to adult, a little bit of wrong in your right became okay and things we want washed into our needs. Deep inside, we know our basic needs (food, water, and shelter), but Status Quo is the new King around town and basic needs now revolve around a greedy smirk.

“Do you really believe that the moon exists only when you look at it?” There are problems outside of our reach, but there are still issues that we can prevent. The key is to not turn your head away, but to take action; start little and build up. Halt destruction. Untie your fabric rainbow! Give yourself human compassion! Make yourself free!
